IREN ROTHENBERG:
As life continues
with surprising and thought provoking tales, so does my 'knitting' of prosaic
and poetic yarns. It is told that
when the policeman asked the truck driver to pull-over, he held up his knitting
and said: It's a cardigan. Here it
is: A diverse collection of poems, essays and stories with many photos and
paintings. You can preview
selected sections throughout the book as well as purchase it at Blurb's
printing cost. http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3169857
If you'd like a signed and dedicated book, let me know, or come by to borrow the book to read.

BARBARA SHAPIRO:
Barbara Shapiro will teach a basketry class for Osher Lifelong Learning
Institute at the Downtown SFSU campus, four Tuesdays from 1 to 4 pm, June 19 to

exploring 3-D textile techniques in 4 Sessions, each including a lecture on some aspect of historic or contemporary forms
and a new hands-on technique. The contemporary Art Basket movement will be
studied in terms of its ancient roots and modern vision. You will look at
traditional baskets as simple as the disposable leaf basket used by prehistoric
man and as complex as Japanese bamboo baskets for the tea ceremony. We will
explore coiling on a paper rush core; plaiting a vessel using paper strips; and
hexagonal weave cane plaiting of hanging vase or book rest and more. You will be surprised with what you can
achieve with simple materials and a bit of imagination. $150.00 plus materials fee. Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at

An excellent workshop for painters, monoprinters, watercolorists,

from one painted image on paper or fabric. Why labor over one painting when you
can paint once and get multiples. The innovative process of polychromatic screen
printing results in a limited edition from the original painted screen — with
no color registration. Similar to an extended monoprint process that produces
5-8 prints from a single painted image. Students complete one print session. No
solvents used. For all levels of ability. Six students only. $70each--includes some materials. For more
information 707/829-1756.
