The next Bay Area SDA meeting will be held at the home and studio of Robin Cowley on January 29, 2012 at 12 noon.  Please bring some of your work, an easy to eat item for a potluck lunch and your own drink.  Hot tea will be provided.

SDA Santa Rosa small group:

Directions:
From Bodega Ave, which is the extension of Hwy. 12 (from Santa Rosa), turn right onto North High Street.  The public library will be on your right.  Precede a block and a half to the dead end and park. There's more parking around behind the house on Pitt Street, if the parking on the front is full. Drive around the block front N. High, to Wilton, and right on Pitt Street.  Park.  One enters through the cream-colored picket fence.

SDA Critique Group meeting:

Carol Larson:
Carol Larson has work in the Winter Solstice exhibition at the Fibre Arts Design studio gallery www.fibreartsdesign.com http://www.fibreartsdesign.com until Jan 25, 2012. The gallery is open daily 10 am-5 pm at 935 Industrial Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94303, 650-485-2121. Additionally Carol, Robin Cowley and Diane Perin Hock are the jurors for Out of the Comfort Zone: New Directions in Quilting for Mendocino and Lake County artists at the Grace Hudson Museum in Ukiah March 2-July 29, 2012.

Hilda Morones:
The Gallery at Fibre Arts Design will feature three different exhibitions:
-“Winter Solstice" through January 25th
-"Anima: The Self Within" - Anima. An exploration of the concept of anima/animus; the self within our unconscious mind, as expressed through mixed media. - February 9th - March 22nd
-"Origins" - Origins / the exhibition showcases artists working in various media. The theme, Origins, explores an emergence, source or beginning. Artists may choose to interpret
this in a variety of ways: genesis of life, source of a creation, derivation of an idea are just three examples. - April 5th - May 16th
the deadline for the Origins Exhibition Call for Entries is February 15th and is open to all artists
The deadline for the Waste Not Exhibition (May 24th - June 28th) is March 24th.

Focus will be on sharing projects completed, or UFO's and the "Properties of Wool",  plus "From Sheep to Fine Felt" presentation. Each participant can stay the day and work on a project. Tables, chairs, water source will be available. Bring all your own supplies and equipment. Lunch on your own.
Nancy Riffle:
Nancy had her piece, "Place D isplaced" accepted in the show "Song of the Land" sponsored by the Jewish Women Artists group, a  subgroup of the Women's Caucus for the Arts.  The opening reception will be on Feb. 23 to coincide with the annual conference of Women's Caucus for the Arts. The show runs from January 20 through May 31 at Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles.

Amanda has had two pieces, eyeT in the basketry category and Otter Be in the decorative fiber category, selected as finalists for Niche awards.

Bonnie J. Smith:
Bonnie’s artwork "Color x 3,orange" was selected as a 2012 NICHE Award Finalist.  Awards ceremony will be at the Philadelphia Buyers Market of American Craft, February 18, 2012. http://www.nicheawards.com 



Her artwork "What to say?" was  juried into the National Women's Caucus for Art Conference exhibit "Momentum".  Bonnie's artwork recognizes the women's movement over the last 140 years. The exhibit will take place at the Los Angeles Art Association Gallery 825, 8257 LaCienega Blvd. Los Angeles, Ca.  Opening reception is February 24, 2012 6-9 P.M. http://www.laaa.org .

Joann Stabb:
Joann submitted a photo from the Opening Reception of the exhibitions entitled:  “Art Informs Shibori” and “Wearable Art: Draped, Shaped, Flow and Shadow”.  In conjunction with the  8th International Shibori Symposium.

 Myrna Tatar:
Myrna’s work is currently in the "Crossing Lines: The Many Faces of Fiber" exhibit at the Courtyard Gallery of the World Finance Center in New York. The show is sponsored by the Textile Study Group of New York and juried by Rebecca Stevens.

The Textile Arts Council:
TAC presents Bay Area fiber artist Lia Cook. The viewer responses to the imagery of human faces in her latest weavings led her to an artist-in-residency at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine’s TREND program. Working with neuroscience researchers, she attempted to map these emotional reactions to her art.
