JOY STOCKSDALE:
Joy is offering her Polychromatic Screen Printing Workshop through Baulines Craft Guild.
Polychromatic screen printing is an excellent technique for painters, monoprinters, screen printer, or anyone interested in obtaining multiples from one painted image on paper or fabric. Why labor over one painting when you can paint once and get multiples? The innovative process of polychromatic screen printing results in a limited edition from the original painted screen -- with no color registration. Similar to an extended monoprint process that produces 5-8 prints from a single painted image. With this process, all the colors in an image are painted on a single print screen, then printed on fabric or paper with one pull of the squeegee. No solvents used. For all levels of ability. If you are a watercolorist, fabric painter, screen printer, or just interested, you will benefit from this inventive process.
October 15, 2011, 9:30AM-4:30PM in Joy’s Sebastopol studio, fee $100.  To register for the workshop, please contact Baulines Craft Guild office at 415-458-3535 or email director@baulinescraftguild.org

SAN JOSE MUSEUM OF QUILTS AND TEXTILES;
The current exhibit, Scrap ART showcases historical quilts drawn from the Museum’s and private collections and ‘scrappy’ contemporary works.   Scrap ART examines the historical precedent and aesthetic of the scrap quilt and its modern-day descendants.
Just as quilters have long been inspired to make beautiful pieces from available scraps, the throwaways of daily life have inspired a new generation of ecologically-minded artists to combine creative reuse with old-fashioned thrift in works using material as varied as books, jeans, zippers, plastic, buttons and teabags. Scrap ART celebrates the reinterpretation of materials by artists both historical and contemporary in works that reflect the cultures and values of their makers.
The exhibit runs from through October 16, 2011.

ANIMAL FIBERS:ART INFORMS SHIBORI
Hong Kong Design Institute December 14, 2011-January 13, 2012
OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS
An international exhibition of fiber art works showcasing shibori’s inherent transformative power on material, from 2-D to 3-D. With its  shape changing and volume shifting abilities, the shibori process interplays uniquely with animal-based fibers. Inventive, style-making designs exploiting this interplay have been seen on catwalks of designers such as Yoshiki Hishinuma and Jurgen Lehl and in fiber work of artists like Jean Cacicedo and Jorie Johnson. This exhibition also comments on contemporary global innovations in materials that have been with humans since primeval time. An accompanying exhibition, “Animal Fibers in Chinese Tradition,” curated by Edith Cheung, will visit the resourcefulness and beauty of traditional historical works created in China, addressing humankind’s relationship with animals in a shared environment.

The departure theme for this international exhibition is art work made from animal fiber, animal hide, or a combination of both, utilizing the principles of shaped or resisted shibori dyeing techniques. These works should be inspired by the transformative properties of materials and their potential to change surface and structure, exhibiting visual and/or dimensional transformation.
